24 The Web is a 24 hour web design challenge, where three teams of eight people build websites for a charity within 24 hours. The purpose of the event is to highlight the importance of design, standards, content and process that is core to developing a site, in a fun and challenging way. The event took place over 24 hours on the 29th of October.

Change Nation was selected as one of the charities and the team of six worked through the night to produce this website. You can catch up with the antics via the main website or the Twitter feed.

Special thanks to Stu Curry who organised the whole event and the many sponsors, including Blacknight for the hosting, EngineYard and Orchestra for the venue, 3fe for keeping us sufficiently caffinated, Yamamori for the lunch, Burritos & Blues for the early dinner, Jo’Burger for the later / second dinner, cakes, brownies and cupcakes from Bake My Cake, the Institute of Designers in Ireland and Design Week and everyone else who made this event possible.

Bill Drayton Receives Prince of Asturias Award

Bill Drayton has formally received the Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation in Oviedo, Spain. The award is Spain’s highest honor, equivalent to its Nobel Prize. It aims to “reward the scientific, technical, cultural, social, and humanistic work performed at an international level whose work has contributed in both an exemplary and relevant way to the mutual understanding, progress or fellowship among peoples.”

Watch Bill and the other Laureates, including Julie Maxton, Sir Paul Nurse (executive director and president of The Royal Society), Riccard Muti, Leonard Cohen, Haile Gebrselassie, Giacomo Rizzolatti, Arturo Álvarez-Buylla, Joseph Altman, and representatives of the “Heroes of Fukushima”: Howard Gardner, Shinji Iwakuma, Toyohiko Tomioka, Masami Watanabe and Yoshitsugu Oigawa.
